Transition Planning and the Community

Students at The New School of Montpelier  begin transition planning at the time of enrollment. Whether planning for the transition back to a public school, to an adult program, to a full-time job, or to some level of independent living, all students at NSM practice their skills in the community. The vast resources of Montpelier and the surrounding area are accessed to supplement the school program.

Students receive assistance in developing independent living skills through both classroom instruction and community integration activities with supervising staff. Ansell-Casey Life Skills Assessment, Vocational Assessments, and Interest Inventories begin the process of career exploration.

The Transition and Work Based Learning Coordinators work with special education case managers, personnel, students, and caregivers to create meaningful volunteer and job placements in the community.
