Who We Are

The New School of Montpelier is a learning community committed to preparing individuals with unique and complex challenges for successful lives, using evidence-based practices to promote independence, communication, social/emotional skills and academic growth, all within a culture of safety and belonging.

NSM's learning community provides services to the school districts of Central Vermont and beyond. We are a 2 location school, providing services year round, and serving co-ed students from the ages of 5-22. Our most valuable marketing tool is the exceptional working relationships we have formed with these schools and their local agencies. In addition we also have many parents inquiring based on information they receive through our website (nsmvt.org) and through word-of-mouth.

The New School of Montpelier is approved as a general and special education Independent School by the Vermont Board of Education to serve students with the disability category of Other Health Impairment, Speech or Language Impairment, Specific Learning Disability, Intellectual Disability, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Emotional Disturbance, Developmental Delay, Multiple Disabilities, and Traumatic Brain Injury. The purpose of the New School is to provide an appropriate education to students whose needs cannot be met within their school district. We do this by providing a safe and encouraging environment for our unique learners. Our staff uses educational and therapeutic components based on strong relationships with students to help them be successful. We modify everything from elementary to high school, and transitional curriculum to ensure success for our students. The management and operating structure is overseen by an Executive Director and a Board of Directors.
